CUSCHIERI

Whilst Cuschieri features on the Militia Lists of both 1419 and 1420, there are records of a Gaddo Cuzkeri acquiring the feudal domain of Fiddien (outskirts of Rabat) in 1343.

Perhaps deriving from a Sicilian nickname, a manipulation of the French cousquer which means "lazy bones". Meanwhile, in Arabic kushâkir means "food made of lentils and rice" and may refer to a cook.

Dexter arms (outstretched towards the left) in heraldry are symbols of prosperity, merit and qualities of leadership. The or (yellow, gold) field indicates nobility, intelligence, prestige, virtue, and grandeur.
