RUGGIER

Dating back to at least the early sixteenth century, we find examples of the surnames amongst early members of the order, such as  Benedictus and Jacobus de Rogeriis. Rhodiots employed by knights in the early 1530s.

From the Italian name Ruggiero (Roger in English), itself from the Germanic Hrodger, which combines elements of the words hroth(i) — meaning "famous, renowned" — and ger(i), meaning "spear".

Quatrefoils in heraldry represent revival, purity and eagerness. We see them here over a field of azure (blue), symbolising loyalty, fidelity, perseverance and honesty.
